World Ocean Day

Proposed at the 1992 Rio Earth Summit and officially recognised by the UN in 2008, World Ocean Day draws attention to the ocean covering 71% of Earth's surface and generating over 50% of its oxygen. More than 80% of the ocean remains unmapped and unexplored — it is the largest unexplored environment on the planet.
