World No Tobacco Day
Established by the WHO in 1987, May 31st draws attention to the health risks of tobacco and advocates for effective policies to reduce consumption. Tobacco kills approximately 8 million people annually โ more than HIV, malaria, and tuberculosis combined. Global smoking rates have fallen from 33% in 2000 to around 17% today.
