World Gorilla Day

Established by the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund on September 24th — the date in 1967 that Dian Fossey established her research camp in Rwanda. There are fewer than 1,100 mountain gorillas remaining in the wild. Conservation efforts have actually increased their population over the past two decades — one of very few success stories among great apes.
