World Car Free Day

September 22nd promotes alternatives to car travel in cities worldwide. Originally a French initiative called En Ville Sans Ma Voiture in 1997, it is now observed in over 1,500 cities across 40 countries. Cities that have implemented car-free zones typically see a 20 to 30% increase in retail sales from foot traffic — the economics and the environment are, for once, aligned.
