National Toasted Marshmallow Day
The marshmallow was originally made from the sap of the marsh mallow plant, used medicinally in ancient Egypt. Modern marshmallows are gelatin and sugar and contain no plant at all. Toasting one over a fire is the defining campfire ritual of North American childhood. The s'more โ marshmallow plus chocolate plus graham cracker โ was first documented in a Girl Scout manual in 1927.
