Soup may be the oldest prepared food on earth — stone-boiling techniques predate ceramics by thousands of years. The US alone consumes around 10 billion cans a year, with Campbell's selling 2.5 billion of those in a can design unchanged since Andy Warhol immortalised it in 1962.
