National Ice Cream Day

President Ronald Reagan declared the third Sunday of July to be National Ice Cream Day in 1984, calling ice cream a food that makes Americans feel good about being Americans. The US consumes 1.6 billion gallons of ice cream annually — more per capita than any other nation. The scoop was invented at the 1904 St. Louis World's Fair after a waffle vendor helped an ice cream vendor who ran out of dishes.
