National Ferret Day

Ferrets have been domesticated for over 2,500 years, originally bred by the Romans to flush rabbits from burrows. They sleep up to 20 hours a day and enter a sleep state so deep it resembles death — a phenomenon called ferret dead sleep that has alarmed many new owners. There are an estimated 5 to 7 million pet ferrets in the US.
