National Cheese Pizza Day

The Margherita pizza — mozzarella, tomato, basil — was allegedly created for Queen Margherita of Savoy during her 1889 visit to Naples. The story is probably apocryphal but the pizza is real. Americans now consume 3 billion pizzas annually, and the cheese pizza version represents the safe choice that everybody secretly prefers.
