National Cat Day

Founded in 2005 by animal welfare advocate Colleen Paige, National Cat Day predates International Cat Day (August 8th) by two years. There are an estimated 600 million cats in the world, 74 million in the US alone. Cats were domesticated around 10,000 years ago in the Fertile Crescent — though feline behaviour researchers argue they mostly domesticated themselves.
