Matariki

Matariki is the Maori name for the Pleiades star cluster, whose annual rising signals the Maori New Year. New Zealand made it a public holiday in 2022 — the first new national holiday in over 40 years — and the first based on an indigenous astronomical event. The exact date varies by lunar calendar each year, falling in late June or early July.
