International Day of Democracy

Proclaimed by the UN General Assembly in 2007 to promote democratic principles worldwide. As of 2023, only 45% of the world's population lives in a full or flawed democracy, down from 55% a decade ago. The day falls between International Literacy Day and World Peace Day — neither adjacency is coincidental.
