International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women
Designated by the UN in 1999, November 25th commemorates the Mirabal sisters of the Dominican Republic, murdered by the Trujillo dictatorship on this date in 1960. It launches 16 Days of Activism against gender-based violence, ending on December 10th, Human Rights Day. An estimated 736 million women globally have experienced physical or sexual violence at least once.
