Freedom Day

April 27th marks the anniversary of South Africa's first fully democratic election in 1994 — the day millions voted for the first time. The queues stretched for kilometres. Nelson Mandela was inaugurated president five days later. Freedom Day is now a public holiday celebrating the end of apartheid and the birth of the rainbow nation.
