Dia de la Raza
October 12th marks Columbus's 1492 arrival in the Caribbean โ a date observed very differently across Latin America. Dia de la Raza, or Day of the Race, celebrates the blending of Indigenous, European, and African cultures that produced Latin American identity. Several countries have renamed the holiday: Venezuela's Dia de la Resistencia Indigena, Bolivia's Dia de la Descolonizacion. The date and its meaning are still being negotiated.
